Kuje Prison Break: Two Fleeing Inmates Nabbed In Adamawa

Police operatives in Adamawa State have reportedly apprehended two criminal suspects who were among the fleeing inmates from the Kuje Correctional Centre in the Federal Capital Territory, Abuja. The Kuje prison had been attacked by terrorists on July 5, 2022, resulting in the death of five individuals. The assailants managed to free 879 inmates, although a significant number were recaptured shortly after the incident.
The responsibility for the attack was claimed by the Islamic State of West Africa Province (ISWAP), and it was later discovered that 64 of the escapees were prominent members of the sect who had been held in the facility. The Adamawa State Police Command recently released a statement announcing the arrest of two fugitives, Atiku Ibrahim (37) and Adamu Ibrahim (40), who were among those who had escaped from the Kuje facility during the jailbreak.

In a separate development, the Delta State Police Command has apprehended a 34-year-old woman named Queen Uwagbogu. She was caught in possession of an AK-47 rifle during a raid conducted by the police at her residence near Effuru Roundabout in Warri. The operation was carried out based on credible intelligence received by the authorities.
The Delta State Command Public Relations Officer, DSP Edafe Bright, stated that during the raid, law enforcement officers seized one hundred rounds of 7.62mm live ammunition. In a separate operation conducted by the Rapid Response Squad (RRS), a black Lexus RS 350 with registration number RBC 811 CY, a battle-axe, and two iPhones were recovered. The driver and owner of the vehicle abandoned it and fled on foot after attempting to bribe the security operatives who were conducting stops and searches along the Oworigbala-Oworh-Ughelli road in Oworigbala community. The officers rejected the bribe and pursued the suspect.
These recent arrests and seizures by the police demonstrate their commitment to maintaining law and order within the communities they serve. The apprehension of the two escaped inmates from the Kuje Correctional Centre and the capture of an individual in possession of an AK-47 rifle highlight the authorities’ efforts to ensure public safety and bring criminals to justice. The diligence and professionalism exhibited by the police are commendable, as they continue to protect and safeguard the well-being of citizens. The successes achieved in these operations should serve as a reminder that law enforcement agencies are resolute in their mission to maintain peace and security in the society.
