DSS seizes Emefiele’s passport. plan search at his home and office

The Department of State Services (DSS) has taken possession of the passport belonging to Godwin Emefiele, the suspended Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria.

Following his arrest in Lagos and subsequent transfer to Abuja, reports suggest that the DSS is planning to conduct searches of Emefiele’s residence and office in the coming week. According to a source, the confiscation of Emefiele’s travel document is a standard procedure during ongoing investigations.

The source further explained that as part of the investigation into Emefiele’s management of the Central Bank, a search will be conducted at his home and office to gather relevant documents. The aim is to gather evidence that can aid the ongoing investigation, shedding light on Emefiele’s actions and decision-making during his tenure.

In addition to revisiting the previously filed criminal charges against Emefiele, which include allegations of terrorism financing and fraud, the DSS is considering the possibility of arresting or summoning senior directors of the Central Bank for questioning. These individuals would be questioned regarding their roles in the administration of the apex bank.

Furthermore, Emefiele has been accused of mismanaging the Nigeria Incentive-Based Risk Sharing System for Agricultural Lending and the Anchor Borrowers Programme, both of which are subsidiaries of the Central Bank. These allegations contribute to the overall scrutiny and investigation surrounding Emefiele’s actions and raise concerns about the effectiveness of his management.

The DSS’s actions, including the confiscation of Emefiele’s passport and the planned search of his home and office, demonstrate the seriousness of the investigation into the former CBN Governor. The authorities are determined to gather evidence and uncover any potential wrongdoing, ensuring accountability and transparency in the management of Nigeria’s financial institutions.
