In a detailed development, the House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has taken a stance against the operation of Nigeria Air, labeling it as a fraudulent endeavor. The committee chairman, Nnaji Nnolim, made this assertion during an investigative hearing held on Tuesday, June 6. The hearing brought together representatives from the Airline Operators of Nigeria (AON) and officials from the Ministry of Aviation.
The lawmakers strongly criticized the Ministry of Aviation’s defense that Nigeria Air had only been unveiled and not officially launched, dismissing it as a diversionary tactic aimed at deflecting their attention. Their skepticism about the project was further intensified when the Nigerian Airspace Management Agency (NAMA) disclosed that the aircraft, bearing the design of Nigeria Air, which had arrived in the country a few days earlier, was actually a chartered flight.
This revelation left the lawmakers deeply disappointed, as they believed it cast doubt on the authenticity and viability of the Nigeria Air project. Other stakeholders present at the hearing supported this disclosure, highlighting the fact that a chartered flight can be painted with any color and adorned with any inscriptions, making it easy to mimic the appearance of an official airline.
The House of Representatives Committee on Aviation has thus called for the immediate suspension of the operations of Nigeria Air, emphasizing their belief that it is a fraudulent venture. This latest development adds to the growing skepticism surrounding the project and raises concerns about its credibility and transparency.
