The EFCC responded to the allegation made by Zamfara state governor, Bello Matawalle, that its boss, Abdulrasheed Bawa, requested a $2 million bribe from him.
The commission stated that it will not engage in a war of words with a suspect. Governor Matawalle had previously claimed in a BBC Hausa interview that Bawa had solicited the bribe from him.
The EFCC, via a statement on its Twitter account, urged the governor to provide substantial evidence to support his accusations.
